Rue Royale – Halfway Blind

7 inch vinyl with download codes – SOLD OUT

Two years ago Ruth & Brookln Dekker packed up their life in Chicago, sold up, hit the road and never looked back. Since setting out, Rue Royale have played over 350 shows across Europe and the US, building up an incredible fanbase which sees them regularly selling out shows across the Netherlands, France and Germany.

The beginning of 2011 will see the UK introduced to Rue Royale’s folk-tinged Americana with this first single, just ahead of the release of their new album, Guide To An Escape, in the spring.

Rue Royale are an Anglo-American duo (Ruth hailing from the Midlands and Brookln St Louis), named after a road running through the Chicago suburbs where they first started to play together. With a shared love of Fleetwood Mac, John Martyn and UK Northern Soul, they began to develop their own distinctive sound, of beautifully constructed and deceptively complex vocal and percussive arrangements.

It was during the release of their debut album in 2008, the self-titled Rue Royale, that they would become the busiest, most hardworking band that we’ve ever come across. Constantly travelling, playing every kind of venue, from intimate house shows, to the legendary squat site Sturmglocke in Hanover and festivals such as Eurosonic. The popularity of their mesmerising live shows has seen them independently sell over 4,000 copies of their CD, hand-stitching the covers along the way in true DIY spirit, as well as selling thousands again in downloads.

Although new to most music fans in the UK, the popularity of both their live shows and album has led to airplay on American radio and MTV as well as BBC 6 Music and XFM, topping their weekly “Music Response” ballot.

Halfway Blind is taken from their new album Guide To An Escape, due for release in March 2011. The track is an excellent indication of the bands development, which sees them enhance the trademark delicate, timeless melodies of their debut into a fuller, richer sound, whilst retaining the intimacy and atmospheric quality of all their previous work.

Say Now Would You, an exclusive to this release, see’s the band in more head-nodding, toe-tapping mood, while maintaining the same intricacy in lyrics and vocal arrangement that exemplifies their unique sound.

Rue Royale will be doing a tour of the UK in January and February 2011, straight after completing a tour of the Netherlands including the Eurosonic festival. For updates on the tour, please check our live page, or myspace.com/rueroyale

You may have already heard “Halfway Blind” thanks to Gideon Coe on 6music, or John Kennedy on Xfm who have both played the track ahead of release.

The forward-thinking girls at The Camden Store have been cunning enough to pick out Rue Royale as one of their top 10 bands to catch in 2011:
“Hugely appreciated on the continent, there is no reason why their low-fi folk songs shouldn’t be just as adored over here.”
